It’s a new day, it’s a new dawn…it’s 2010!

In the past, the prospect of a new year has brought hope, goals, resolutions, and clean slates. The beginning of this decade was inauspicious at best as I was laid up with a nasty case of strep throat. In fact, I was so under the weather that I actually forgot to bask in the novelty and freshness of not only a new year, but a new and promising decade. In order to regain that feeling, I’ve started a new project. I’m going to document what will surely prove to be a magical and glorious year by keeping a photo journal. Last year was full of changes, blessings, transitions, and missteps; however many of the details are muddy or forgotten. This year I will take a photograph every day and post it here with a brief description. Sometimes I feel like my life is a monotonous string of mornings and midnights, the hours in between being largely mundane and fleeting. But I know this isn’t true! I will seek out the blessings, the lessons, and the epiphanies and I will be grateful for them all. I once read that how you spend your time is how you spend your life. I want to make sure that I’m spending wisely and I want to remember, if not each and every moment, at least the notable ones. Dear friends, I invite you in for a peak into my world. It may not always be pretty or universally significant, but it’s mine…and that makes it worthwhile.

Happy New Year all!

*Note – I am not a photographer or the owner of a high-end camera.
The photo quality may be inferior, but the days these pictures represent are most certainly not.

February 24, 2010 - Team Canada thrashes Team Russia

For the first time in 50 years Canada beat Russia in hockey. And what a victory! Go Canada Go!
I read this quote today and it made me chuckle:

“They came,” said Russia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov of the Canadian onslaught, “like gorillas coming out of a cage.”

LOL...Gorillas coming out of a cage. We got it going on like Donkey Kong, baby.

Annabelle remained unimpressed.

February 23, 2010 - Olympic Swag

Check out the Olympic gear Princie's Mom brought her back from Vancouver! I'm so jealous. There's a sweater, mittens, a keychain, and a skating pin! Jenn and I decided that we needed to find us some Olympic swag or we will live to regret it.

Also, Peaches' new favourite pasttimes are staring at shovels and eating snow.

February 22, 2010 - RIP Daddy (the pit bull)

It is with great sadness that I report that Cesar Millan's beloved dog "Daddy" passed away. I know, I know, I'm getting all emotional about a dog that I've never even met. But Todd and I have spent many Sunday mornings watching episode after episode of The Dog Whisperer and we both LOVED Daddy. When Cesar would go to someone's house to deal with a problematic dog, he usually brought Daddy with him to help teach the dog to behave. Daddy was a wonderful example of how kind and gentle pit bulls can be under the right care and guidance. I'm gonna miss you buddy. :(

Check him out.

February 21st, 2010 - Sunday at the Park

It was a gorgeous, sunny day here in the big smoke so I took the dogs for a walk in the park. This is Annabelle stopping for a well-deserved rest. Passersby thought a dog sitting on a bench was just about the cutest/funniest thing they had ever seen!

February 20th, 2010 - Todd for Mayor

It has been decided that Todd should run for Mayor of Toronto. I think this would be a great PR photo, don't you? We had quite a time at Murphy's Law listening to the sweet sounds of the B.A. Baracus Band and trying to sort out Todd's campaign strategy. Less bike lanes for EVERYONE! ;)

February 19th, 2010 - Is that Dita Von Teese?!?

This is me and my best girls getting ready to go dancing at a bar in the Gay-bourhood. And we got down with our bad selves, let me tell you! It was Britney Spears night at The Barn and we danced up a storm. We made some interesting new friends, saw some washboard abs on a shirtless bartender, and capped the night off with some nasty/delicious food at The Golden Griddle. Melissa was told that she looked like Dita Von Teese and Jenn was complemented on her décolletage. It was quite an evening! Thank you for the laughs ladies!

February 18, 2010 - Two different boots

Toula wore two different shoes to work today! LOL! Gawd that girl makes me howl.

February 17, 2010 - Lounging

Ok, so this photo was actually taken on Pancake Tuesday but it is a fair representation of today. I know it's a strange photo but this is one of Peaches' favourite places to snooze. What can you do?

February 16, 2010 - Pancake Tuesday (More Pictures of Food)

Did you know that banana/skor pancakes are the pinnacle of deliciousness? Well now you do! For Pancake Tuesday I used the leftover Sundae toppings from Friday's festivities to make scrumptious custom order pancakes. There were banana pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, skor pancakes, white chocolate chip pancakes, and myriad combination pancakes. Here are some of my best girls being cozy and enjoying the delectable flap jacks.

February 15, 2010 - Family Day

I didn't see my family on Family Day, but I did see some goats. Maybe on Goat Day I'll go visit my parents.

February 14, 2010 - My Funny Valentine

Todd and I celebrated our first Valentine's Day together and it was everything I hoped it would be. He bought me these lovely roses and took me out for a delicious dinner in the beaches. Of course I welled up at the sight of the beautiful bouquet because I'm a sap and because it's been ages since I've received flowers from a boy. After dinner we went to the movies and saw The Wolfman. I gave it 2.5 stars. Todd, however, gets infinite stars for being the best Valentine a girl could ask for.

February 13, 2010 - Brunch on the Danforth

This is my dear friend Laura looking adorable in her purple hat and scarf. Laura and I met up for brunch and then braved the sub-zero temperatures to do a little boutique shopping on the Danforth. She bought the cutest little giraffe pillow! And if you are looking for a great breakfast place, I recommend The Old Nick. If you are looking for a jaunty lavendar hat, I recommend asking Laura where she shops.

February 12, 2010 - The Olympics are HERE!!

I just love the Olympic Games!! With the opening ceremonies happening tonight we decided to have a little shindig to celebrate. There was so much food and drink I thought I would explode! Let's do the math, shall we? 4 quiches + 2 pots of chili + 1 veggie tray + 214 bags of chips + 1 loaf of garlic bread + 1 shrimp ring + 1 build-your-own sundae bar + 1 Olympic cake / 6 people = you better be wearing your buffet pants or you're in trouble. Good Gravy!

February 11, 2010 - Sweet Things

Here are some of the reasons why I love my job. This is Toula and she makes work fun by being awesome and hilarious. Toula is showing off some delicious baked goods that we picked up at the company bake sale.
Sweet people + sweet treats = great work environment. :)

February 10th, 2010 - Kerplunk'em

I made Todd watch American Idol with me tonight and he was just thrilled. ;)

So in order to amuse himself (and me to some extent) he added some witty, and oft times cruel commentary to the show. He’s sort of like Seacrest… only EVIL. Here are some of my faves:

"Your dreams are like a window being smashed in slow motion."
"Hello dreams (make a kcshhhh noise and mime breaking a stick in half)!"
"I hope she makes it so I can watch America shatter her dreams live on stage in front of millions of people."
"I like Big Mike."

He also passed the time by giving the contestants off-putting nicknames like Eyebrows, Pinky, Pat Benetar, and Bubbles. When he could no longer entertain himself with his clever observations he asked "Where's Kerplunk'em?" and set out to dominate the leader board once again.

Sigh…if only he’d use his powers for good.

February 9, 2010 - Let it Snow!

It's beginning to look a lot like Winter! At least here in Toronto. I wish I could say the same for Vancouver.
sigh...

February 8, 2010 - Stupid Monday

7am dentist appointments blow. But hey, check out how my poinsettia is sprouting.

February 7, 2010 - Superbowl Sunday - Who dat?

But how cute is this?!?! I don't follow football at all but I do like to watch high-stakes games (Olympics starts Friday!) and I generally cheer for the underdog. How do you NOT cheer for New Orleans after everything the people there have been through? GO SAINTS! Who dat?

February 6, 2010 - Closing the Gap

I'm narrowing the gap on the leaderboard. Todd still takes the top spot in reMovem (or as he likes to call it "remove balls") but I'm closing in. Of course, I get way more practice than Todd but I think it's still something to be proud of. ;)

February 5, 2010 - I heart Fridays

Tonight Jenn, Princie, Stew, the girls, and I watched How to Lose Friends and Alienate People and ate delicious Chudleigh's apple blossoms. Peaches supervised the baking/heating of the desserts but was not rewarded for her efforts. Poor thing.

February 4, 2010 - Sigh

Sorry folks. Either nothing noteworthy happened today or I forgot to take a picture. Most likely the latter. So here is my kindergarten class picture. Just because it's cute.

February 3, 2010 - These are a few of my favourite things

What a wonderful Wednesday! Todd came over for dinner and a Cribbage rematch. He even brought me chocolate! Seriously, am I lucky gal or what? If only he'd let me win a game of Crib...

February 2, 2010 - Lost

The sixth and final season of Lost started tonight. Jenn and I were engrossed. Peaches just wanted to make out.

February 1, 2010 - My Girls are back!

My best girls came home today. How happy am I? We all had a nice cuddle and went to sleep.

January 31, 2010 - Sunday

I forgot to take a picture today so here is one of Melissa's T-shirt from last night. Best. shirt. ever. :)

January 30th, 2010 - Epidurals are for Pussies

Tonight we finally got to celebrate Paul's birthday and good times were had by all. The theme of the evening was Funny/Inappropriate T-shirts and, not surprisingly, Paul and Melissa's outfits were head and shoulders above everyone else's. These two are so hardcore they even made their OWN shirts! Melissa's shirt read "Epidurals are for Pussy's" and Paul's shirt is pictured above. Todd and I decided that the T-shirt theme was just a ruse so that Paul could check out all the girls' racks without appearing inappropriate. And speaking of great racks, here is a pic of CJ's T-shirt!

January 29, 2010 - Wolf Moon

Apparently tonight's moon was the biggest and brightest full moon of the year! According to the National Geographic website "The 2010 wolf moon will appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other full moon this year, because our cosmic neighbor will actually be closer to Earth than usual."
Huh.
I wonder if the brightness of the moon had anything to do with Todd beating me (by a very slim margin) at Cribbage?

January 28, 2010 - My favourite Apps

Jenn, Princie, and I ate these delicious appetizers for dinner and watched Supernatural. Good times were had by all.

January 27, 2010 - Me and my Mo

You know the friends you have that you don't get to see as often as you'd like and then when you get together you talk and talk and talk until suddenly it's 1:30 in the morning on a school night? That's Mo. We spent a lovely evening eating takeout and catching up on all the scandals and animals in our lives. Here we are posing with several of her weird and wonderful toys! (Mo, you look positively stunning. I heart 2010 Mo. She's awesome.)

Oh and that handsome devil is Hexter the cat.
